Raw Hummus

I have seen many different varieties done of hummus mine is really simple.

sprout chick peas this takes atleast a couple of days until little sprouts are coming out of the beans amount depends on how much you want to make start with 2 cups in large sprouting jar and cover with more then double water should yield a good amount.  If your not sure how to sprout beans etc.
rule of thumb usually soak for 24hrs drain rinse and then drain and let sit tipped over for excess water to drain out a sprouting jar works great for this or a sprouting bag rinse 2-3 times daily for the next 2 days until you notice sprouts forming once you see the little sprouts they can be used whatever you do not use refrigerate and use within 3-5 days.

I mean very simple

Chickpeas 2 cups sprouted
1-2 tblsps of Cumin
2-3 cloves garlic pressed
1-2 tblsps lemon or lime juice
salt and pepper to taste
1/2-1 cup extra virgin olive oil/ or coconut oil if your prefer.
1/2-1 cup water or more depending on consistency.
3tblsps. Tahini ( sesame seed paste) make your own or buy some raw prepared paste in a health food store.
other additons you could make Parsley for some color, hot peppers for some kick, cilantro and some cumin and paprika for a more mexican flavoured hummus.  The options are endless if your not completely raw some roasted red peppers are a nice addition and roasting the garlic is also quite common.
Start the beans in food processor or if you have a Vitamix or Blendtec or other commercial type appliance this could be used.   Combine garlic, chickpeas,lemon juice, and tahini in your blending appliance start the unit and add olive oil slowly until you get the consistency you desire thick add less oil thinner add more this is why I recommend adding the oil seperately.  If you do not want to use alot of oil water can be used to thin it out.

Transfer the blended mixture to a bowl.

If you like it spicy and other's who may want to indulge in this yummy concoction.  Do Not add to whole mixture maybe add some heat to a smaller amount just for you and label HOT!

Good Luck and Enjoy,  Serve with veggies and even some dried veggies crisps and such and if your friends or family are not completely raw serve up some pita bread or crackers.

Prep Time once the chickpeas have sprouted maybe 20 minutes.

Raw Foods Green Smoothie recipe "NO Dairy, No Whey Protein"

So alot of my recipes lately have been smoothies or Juices the one I'm drinking right now turned out pretty tasty so I thought I would tell it:  Blueberry Banana Green Smoothie

First off I do not have a commercial blender like a Vitamix or BlendTec not too say I would not love one.  Right now I use a simple Oster 10speed and blends stuff pretty decent. So start with a base

I used 2 cups of cooled steeped green tea  for the antixiodant properties and other known health benefits.  The level of caffiene is low and you could always use decaf green tea or simply water.
1/2 cup blueberries
1 banana  could have used 2 in hindsight
and 1 & 1/2 cups of spinach
and blend I would have added some ice but did not have any on hand
You cold also add some kind of nut milk or nut yogurt to this to make it creamier
though if your trying to lose weight try to limit any nut intake.

Remember blenders simply blend food they break down the fibers to make it more digestable but the fiber is still there.  If your wanting to make a juice that is great but without the pulp/fiber
a decent juicer is required.  I would recommend the Breville Juice Fountain Elite or the Kuvings Juicer.

If You Have Skin Problems and Weight Issues.

I have dealt with weight issues in my life since I was a teenager being teased about my size like alot of us this has happened some people are cruel.  I had always enjoyed food probably more then most of my family there wasn't much I tried that I did not like except turnips but now I like them raw.  So when my weight started to climb and climb and then in late 2009 I was weighing in  at almost 300lbs I knew I had to do something.  My wife was my support and well you could say my motivation as well I want to grow old with her.  I joined the gym the weight was coming off but very slowly. 

Most likely because I was still overeating and indulging in fatty deep fried foods, sweets, junk food, and processed foods, as well drinking pop like it was water.  Not to say I did not eat fruits and veggies just not as much back then as I do now.

I had also been to my Dr. and he was explaining to me that I had shown fatty liver deposits in my tests, my cholestoral was a little high and I was pre hypertensive and at that time was reading 140/90's for my blood pressure.  This was an eye opener as well for me.   I should also mention I was diagnosed with a very rare skin disease called Darier's and was placed on this extremely dangerous drug called Accutane/Acitretin which many have most likely heard has law suits all over the states at this moment.  After noticing I was having blurry vision and most likely the cause of my hypertension and possible high blood pressure I knew I had to stop taking this medication.   I asked a pharmacist if there was something I could change in  my eating habits instead of taking this medication?.  Can anyone guess what he told me other raw foodist's may already know well he told me EAT MORE DARK GREEN LEAFY VEGGIES.  Too my surprise and delight he was right I have not had a serious outbreaks for over 2yrs now and no more medications.   Outbreaks you ask why?  well Darier's is a severe form of psoriasis.  I

I think I knew that this lifestyle was going to work when I did my first green juice fast and lost like 12lbs in a week.  But of course many of us that have tried this have done some backsliding into the cooked foods again, this happened with myself and it took me another few months to even consider trying again.  Family get togethers and the temptations to eat the cooked food all around was really hard I knew if I was going to do this it would have to be after holiday season of 2010.

I know now that I wish I would have heard about this many years ago though when you love meat and all the processed junk like I did,  being a vegan or to the extreme a raw vegan is not something you consider seriously.

I love this now I have had so many positive changes in my life since I started this again and went to raw food.  I NO longer have the cravings for cooked foods, my skin has got a natural glow and smoothness to it now and my moods have changed in a big way happier, less stressed and just have a more positive and content way of looking at life. 

I hope this helps some people that are suffering from skin problems and general health and weight issues like myself.  Changing your living to a Raw Food Lifestyle will be the most dramatic though the most important and transforming decision you can make.  Do not concern yourself with what others may think because trust me most people will think you have gone cuckoo. 

Remember  one thing your doing this for you not for anyone else,  that only you can make the choices that will impact your life.  If your ready to change your life and make yourself a healthier thinner you.  Do you want to lose a ton of weight and shock your family members this lifestyle can make it happen research and then read some books watch some Youtube videos on the arw food lifestyle and then commit yourself to a complete none surgical transformation.

REMEMBER ONE LAST THING THOUGH ANY LIFESTYLE YOU CHOOSE NEEDS TO HAVE EXERCISE IN IT.

Starting my New Way of Living

February 18th, 2011

It has been roughly 2 weeks since I started the raw food lifestyle I was contemplating for many months.  I mainly did this to get weight issues under control and to really detox my body after the last 30+yrs of destroying it with all the processed foods, meats, dairy products, pop, sugary energy drinks, juices, and junk foods I have consumed.

I have to recognize to some of the people who have inspired me to transform myself into living this way.  First off Dan McDonald also known as the Life Regenerator on YouTube, and the many others he had introduced us too and whom have become Youtube celebrities on there own Dave the Raw Food Trucker for sure his story and transformation is quite astonishing. 

Plus some other YouTubers and Raw Foodists like David Wolfe, Matt Monarch and his wife and Ani Phyo and her numerous great sounding recipes I can't wait to tryout.

I did not even know about this lifestyle or as some say the Raw Food Diet until just a year ago.  When I started searching on the net for a natural way to lose some weight.  Then bang this came up everywhere and well after months of research and doing a 1 week juice feast to start with,  I realized that if I was going to do this I had to do it for myself that nobody but myself could make a massive change like this. 

So thats what I did starting  on February 4th of this year I said enough is enough I want this transformation so many other people are receiving and I'm not waiting any longer. 

I said goodbye to cooked food!. 

I thought it was going to be rough but after a few days smelling cooked food that my wife is still preparing smelled disgusting and just lacked the look of tasty living uncooked foods have.
Remembering in Chef's training that we all eat with our eyes first, then smell, then taste.

So if something is colorful and looks appealing to us then generally we are more accustomed to eating it. 

The great fruits and veggies on this planet we have to choose from let alone all of the nuts, seeds, and other superfoods.  It's an endless choice of what your going to try next.  With Youtube and all of these great raw chefs/ and aspiring cooks we now have a stockpile of recipes that are amazing even the simple ideas are delicious thanks for alot of those LifeRegenerator and Ani Phyo.

I also have to recognize and speak about one of the biggest Raw Food Gurus out there Lou Corona when I first saw this great man on a LifeRegenerator video clip I was shocked to find out that he was 58yrs old,  man the guy looks like he may be in his late thirties or early forties.  Seeing that and the other video's that Markus RothKranz had put together on the tremendous healings and life altering transformations he had made, plus when a 45 yr old looks better then some guys in there 20's was really making me look into this lifestyle more and more.

I have already noticed that my body is more flexible, I feel less stiff, I have way more energy and
I cannot believe how great I sleep now, and my overall moods have changed I'm happier and less stressed and just more content in life.  I was like this can't just be a coincidence that changing my eating habits and what I was consuming could make such an impact I WAS WRONG!.    Like I said I was going to do this for weight loss though having all of these positive aspects occuring who am I to complain this rocks.  It also shows me why so many people around the world have been living this way for many years and are some of the healthiest and fittest people out there.
